5/22 - Redskins owner Dan Snyder officially gets out of the radio business with the sale of his sports talker, WTEM, The Team 980, to Urban One. I discuss all aspects of the sale and what the future might hold for the station in my latest "Dave TV".....

5/1 - DCRTV hears that Cumulus news talker WMAL today will officially be pulling the plug on its iconic transmitter site in Bethesda, which is being sold to developers. WMAL veteran Tom Gauger posts on Facebook: "A sad day for the WMAL family. Chief Engineer Dave Sproul throws the switch that turns off the transmitter at the legacy site on Bethesda's Greentree Road. At 2 PM EDT WMAL will begin transmission from another site. I'll be there representing a long line of familiar voices heard on WMAL." Starting today, WMAL's 630 signal will come from a site shared with Salem talker WWRC, 570, in Germantown MD, with poorer coverage, especially at night. Most of WMAL's listeners are now tuned to its 105.9 FM signal from Northern Virginia. Check out DCRTV Dave's exploration of the Bethesda site last summer (below).....

10/13 - American University's top-rated news talker WAMU, 88.5, is dropping the ball on its public service pledge by selling its Central Northern Virginia 89.5 signal to EMF for a new Christian contemporary K-Love outlet. Cutting the strongest NPR outlet for hundreds, if not more, people. My latest DC radio rant.....

Get an autographed copy at blackoutthebook.com. More: Porter will be interviewed on an episode of C-SPAN's "Book TV" this week, he'll be doing the morning shows on Channel 5/WTTG and Channel 9/WUSA on Thursday, August 24, and on that same day will also appearing at "Busboys And Poets" in Hyattsville from 6 PM to 8 PM, which will be aired on WPFW, 89.3.....

7/17 - I visit the soon to be former transmitter site of WMAL's AM 630 signal on Greentree Road in Bethesda. The towers will soon be torn down to make room for a new residential development.....

7/5 - Kudos to WTOP for dropping Radio Sputnik, the Russian propaganda channel - which ended up on another DC area set of signals. My analysis is in today's DC media edition of "Dave TV".....
